How many fingers are inserted for a prostate exam?

During a digital rectal exam (DRE) to check the prostate, a healthcare provider inserts one lubricated, gloved finger into the rectum. They use this single finger to palpate (feel) the surface of the prostate gland, which lies in front of the rectal wall, checking for abnormalities in size, shape, or texture.
