Is the HiSET easy?

The HiSET is not universally regarded as easy because its level of difficulty is a matter of subjectivity, and it depends on the level of knowledge and training that a person acquired in high school. HiSET might be easy to a recent high school leaver while posing a major challenge that deserves special study to those who completed high school many years ago.

The perceived difficulty of HiSET depends on a number of factors:

  • Academic Foundation: The test is based on five basic subjects, including Language Arts (Reading and Writing), Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. The stronger one is in these areas, the easier the exam is perceived to be.
  • Familiarity with the Test Formats: Knowledge of the format of multiple choice questions, essays, and computer based format will decrease anxiety and increase performance.
  • Quality of Preparation: It is important to use official materials of the HiSET practice and specific study guides. The exam without specific attention will not be easy.

Success in HiSET requires strategic approach:

  • Administer a test on the diagnosis of practice to determine areas of deficiency.
  • Develop a workable study plan which targets the weak areas.
  • Learn the basics of math and the rules of writing an essay.

Thus, it is uncertain to term the HiSET as easy. By sheer determination, the HiSET is not out of reach; however, its comprehensiveness should not be undermined. The appropriate study model converts a tough test into a manageable one.
