What kind of drug test do they give at MEPS?

The Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) administers a standard urinalysis drug test to all applicants for enlistment. This test is a mandatory part of the medical examination and is designed to screen for the use of unauthorized substances.

The test conducted is a Department of Defense (DoD)-approved 10-panel urinalysis. It screens for a range of substances, including but not limited to:

  • Marijuana (THC)
  • Cocaine
  • Amphetamines (including methamphetamine)
  • Opiates (such as codeine, morphine, and heroin)
  • Phencyclidine (PCP)
  • Benzodiazepines
  • Barbiturates

The sample collection is observed by a trained staff member to ensure the integrity of the process and prevent tampering or sample substitution. The samples are then sent to a certified Department of Defense laboratory for analysis using rigorous testing protocols. It is important to understand that a positive result on this test will result in immediate disqualification from the enlistment process on that day.
